The Newness of God
Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. All things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
This scripture verse is spoken quite often in churches and among people where salvation by faith in Jesus Christ is believed and preached today. Let's look at the depth of this verse a little more.
In this verse we find our past, present, and future are all connected. Faith in Jesus brings them all together in place. That place is the cross of Jesus Christ. At the cross is where we find this powerful work of God taking place. Here at the cross we receive this great salvation God has promised to all who believe in and call upon the name of Jesus.
In the scripture above we find who we are, where we are, how we get there and our right to be there. If you have been to the cross and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you are now born again! Jesus said you must be born again to enter into the Kingdom of God. (John 3:3) You have been redeemed, bought with a price, the blood of Jesus Christ, and you are a child of God! This is who you are now! You were a sinner, but now you are a saint! This is who you are, not what you are going to be, but who you are now.
You now are in Christ! This is where you are. You're in Christ and He is in you! If any man has not the spirit of Christ, he is none of His. (Romans 8:9) When you were born again, all transgressions and sins are forgiven. You have been raised up to be seated in heavenly places in Christ! (Ephesians 2:1- 7) This is where you are! You are made to be part of the body of Christ which is his church. This is where you are now! You got where you are by faith in God's act of grace. For by grace are you saved through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast. it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9) You are a saint by new birth, not by deeds of righteousness you have done. In the world people advance mostly by achievement, but not so with God. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved! (Romans 10:13)
Not only do we receive God's great salvation through Jesus Christ, we also have been given the right to have it! That's right, salvation by grace through faith was never man's idea. It's always been Gods. All the way from Genesis 3:15 till now, God has told of His desire to save us and share with us His wonderful life and kingdom. We have the authority of Scripture to back that up. I'm a whosoever! Say that with me, I am a whosoever! Whosoever shall believe in him, Jesus, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
New birth does away with my past. I'm new creation, old things are passed away. It does not say I'm becoming a new creation, it says I am now! It does not say all things are passing away, it says they're passed away. My past is gone, and I live now in the present as a child of God with His new life in me. Anything that says otherwise is a liar and I we resist that and cling to God's word on it, which is truth!
Scripture tells me that upon receiving Christ and being baptized in water, I start a new walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4) I am alive unto God in Jesus. (Romans 6:9) This newness of life is ours to walk in every day from now on. As we do, God will reveal His plan for our lives so that we can please Him. Behold all things are become new! The Holy Spirit, through the scriptures, the preached word and wholesome spiritual fellowship will reveal God's will and work in us so that we can both will and do God's Pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
God is rich in new with each new day! Come on, explore the possibilities in Christ!
