Honor the Blood
Having now been in ministry almost 40 years, sometimes my mind goes back to the early days when I first began. I remember the revivals. I recall pastoring churches. I am reminded of struggles and victories. I'm also reminded of the people in times in which they tried to get me to change some things I was saying.
I recall one occasion when preaching a funeral, I spoke of salvation, heaven and hell, and how eternity never ends. When I finished, a Doctor of Theology called me aside and told me not to preach that way anymore. He told me to quit carrying my big King James Bible and just memorize a few neutral verses that would help people feel better. On another occasion I was warned by other ministers to stop speaking about the blood of Jesus. Once I was asked to preach a service in a church and they asked me beforehand if I was one of those blood preaching preachers.
I cannot imagine why professing Christians would be offended by the preaching of the blood of Jesus, for without it we could not be Christians. No one could be saved, no one, not ever. When the scriptures speak of Jesus they always speak of His blood. We are delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of Christ by His blood. (Colossians 1:13:14)
Jesus entered the Holy of Holies with his own blood to obtain eternal redemption for us. (Hebrews 9:12) By his blood he reconciled all things into himself. (Colossians 1:20)
In some churches they won't sing about the blood of Jesus. Songs in hymnals have had the blood taken out. Some of these also make God neutral gender like society has with the use of the word “guy.”
I'm very proud to speak of Jesus blood. I once was very far from God, but now I'm made near by the blood of Jesus. (Ephesians 2:13) For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. (Hebrew 9:22) People are trying to claim God salvation and draw near to God by bypassing the cross in the shed blood of the Lamb of God. Jesus Christ, but it won't work. The only justification we have or can have is by the blood of Jesus! (Romans 5:9)
Moses used the blood of animals to establish the first covenant of law Israel had with God. Jesus used his own blood to establish the second, which is everlasting, and He abolished the first. We have a better covenant!
Paul wrote that we partake of the cup of blessing, which is the communion of the blood of Christ (1 Corinthians10:16) We remember what He has done for us when we receive communion, the Lord Supper.
We continue to receive the benefits of His blood every time we sin or mess up. If we confess our sins, He is Faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all in righteousness. 1 John 1:9- Chapter 2: -2) So you see we all need the blood of Jesus.
When this life is over, we will stand before God to be judged. The Bible tells us that only those who have been washed and made clean in the blood of the Lamb Jesus will be able to stand without shame before God. (Revelation 7:14 and 12:11)
Now, listen to God’s Warning! “He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses of how much sorer punishment suppose ye, shall you be thought worthy, who has trodden under feet the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant, where with He was sanctified an unholy thing, and has done despite into the Spirit of grace. (Hebrews 10:28-29)
My friend, which side do you stand on today? Dishonoring his blood or honoring it? I for one will stand by and for the blood of Jesus Christ unashamed.
